Product Description
Root: The Homeland Expansion brings new life to the Woodland with three distinctive factions, two additional maps and exciting new possibilities for the acclaimed asymmetric strategy board game.
As the struggle for power continues, new inhabitants emerge with their own ambitions, abilities and approaches to conflict. Whether you prefer peaceful integration, political influence or daring raids, each faction introduces fresh strategic decisions that change how players interact across the Woodland.
Meet the Three New Factions
Lilypad Diaspora – Peace or Militancy?
Scattered and suppressed for generations, the Lilypad Diaspora hopes to establish a lasting home in the Woodland. Build enclaves, introduce the new Frog suit and work towards peaceful integration to gain victory points. But peace can be fragile. Militant enclaves provide warriors and military strength while increasing the risk of confrontation. Balancing peaceful expansion with defensive aggression becomes essential to survival.
Twilight Council – Power Through Politics
Tired of endless warfare, the Twilight Council seeks to restore order through assemblies and political influence. Establish assemblies, gather Loyalists and govern clearings to limit enemy actions and strengthen your position. Rather than relying entirely on military force, the Council uses negotiation, governance and strategic positioning to influence the balance of power.
Knaves of the Deepwood – Raiders, Ransoms and Revelry
Deep within the forest, a mischievous band of outlaws raids rival factions and takes warriors prisoner. Lead three distinctive Captains, supported by Skunk warriors, to launch attacks, capture prisoners and earn acclaim. Each Captain has opportunities to act before needing to rest, creating a lively playstyle built around careful timing, daring moves and opportunistic rewards.
Explore Two New Woodland Maps
Take the conflict beyond familiar territory with the new Gorge and Marsh maps. The Gorge introduces distinctive bridges and forest boundaries that influence movement and positioning, while the Marsh features flooded paths and adaptable setup options that change the battlefield according to the number of players.
The expansion also introduces new landmarks, additional components and updated cards to create more possibilities when combining content from across the Root game system.
With three dramatically different factions and two new maps to explore, Root: The Homeland Expansion adds another layer of variety, player interaction and strategic depth to the Woodland.
