About this product
The Woodland is yours to rule, if you can keep it.
Lead one of four radically different factions in a tense battle for power, territory and the future of the Woodland.
A richly asymmetric strategy board game where every faction plays, scores and fights for victory in its own distinctive way.
Product Description
The great Woodland is in turmoil, and four very different powers are fighting to shape what comes next.
In Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right, 2–4 players take control of competing factions, each with its own abilities, strategy and path to victory. There is no single formula for winning — learning how your faction works is only the beginning. Understanding what your rivals are trying to achieve can be just as important.
Command the industrious Marquise de Cat as she builds an economic and military stronghold across the forest. Restore the Eyrie Dynasties to their former glory while carefully managing an ever-growing Decree. Rally the Woodland Alliance by spreading sympathy and preparing revolts against its oppressors. Or roam the forest as the Vagabond, completing quests and shaping relationships with the other factions for your own gain.
Movement, crafting, territorial control and battle constantly pull players into one another’s plans. Because every faction approaches the Woodland differently, the same board can create dramatically different challenges depending on who is in play.
Beautifully illustrated by Kyle Ferrin and designed by Cole Wehrle, Root combines adventure, conflict and deeply asymmetric strategy in a woodland struggle where clever decisions can completely change the balance of power.
Expand the Woodland: Add Root: The Riverfolk Board Game Expansion for the Riverfolk Company, Lizard Cult, new Vagabonds and Mechanical Marquise play, or explore Root: The Underworld Board Game Expansion for the Underground Duchy, Corvid Conspiracy and new Mountain and Lake maps.
