Product Description
Root: The Marauder Expansion brings new conflict to the Woodland with two powerful playable factions, four hireling groups and an Advanced Setup system that introduces more variety to the acclaimed asymmetric strategy board game.
As new forces enter the struggle for control, players must adapt to different abilities, unexpected alliances and increasingly dangerous rivals. Whether you prefer overwhelming military strength or a carefully planned expedition to recover lost treasures, the Marauder Expansion opens up exciting new possibilities for your Root games.
Meet the Two New Factions
Lord of the Hundreds – Rule Through Fear and Force
Lead an aggressive army determined to crush opposition and dominate the Woodland. Command the Lord of the Hundreds, a powerful warlord whose changing moods influence your strategy. Gather items into your Hoard to increase your Command and Prowess, recruit additional warriors and strengthen your military capabilities.
Spread torch-wielding mobs across the Woodland, loot valuable items from enemies and score victory points by oppressing clearings under your control. With overwhelming numbers and destructive abilities, the Lord of the Hundreds rewards bold expansion and relentless pressure.
Keepers in Iron – Recover the Relics of a Forgotten Age
Take command of an exiled order of devoted knights returning to the Woodland in search of ancient relics. Establish waystations, explore forests and recover valuable treasures while carefully managing your Retinue of Woodland contacts.
The Keepers rely on planning, movement and tactical positioning to transport relics safely and secure valuable victory points. Their devotion makes them formidable in battle, but recovering lost treasures requires careful coordination and strategic decisions.
Introduce Four Hireling Groups
Hirelings add another layer of interaction to Root by introducing additional pieces and abilities that can change hands during the game. They are especially useful for bringing more activity and tactical tension to games with fewer players.
- Forest Patrol / Feline Physicians: Secure important territory with Marquise warriors or call upon healing abilities to support your strategy.
- Last Dynasty / Bluebird Nobles: Rally the remnants of the Eyrie and explore abilities centred around strength and Woodland authority.
- Spring Uprising / Rabbit Scouts: Encourage rebellion against powerful rulers or gain useful tactical advantages through Alliance sympathisers.
- The Exile / The Brigand: Explore the forests with Vagabond-inspired hirelings and discover new opportunities for collecting useful items.
Advanced Setup – New Ways to Begin
The Marauder Expansion also introduces an Advanced Setup system, giving experienced players a flexible way to select factions and prepare their games. Draft from available factions, explore different starting positions and discover fresh combinations for both casual and competitive play.
With two distinctive factions, four hireling groups and additional setup possibilities, Root: The Marauder Expansion brings more strategic variety, player interaction and memorable Woodland battles to your game table.
